2021 Sonoma Valley Zinfandel

Tasting Notes: 

Coastal living is only a state of mind in Sonoma Valley, a landlocked AVA sandwiched between the Sonoma Mountains on the west and the Mayacamas Mountains to the east. The grapes growing here can smell the salty sea air, brought in daily as fog and the marine layer, but they can't see the ocean. There's even a salty mineral quality in the wine, which is intense, full, and rich with chalky tannins, wildberry fruits, and brown baking spices. Sip, and dream the impossible dream.

Appellation Notes: Sonoma Valley AVA

This small AVA is a valley bordered by the Mayacamas Mountains to the east and the Sonoma Mountains to the west. If you’re eating at the Glen Ellen Star in the town of Glen Ellen, you’re smack in the middle of the AVA. Established in 1981, Sonoma Valley was the first AVA recognized in Sonoma County, so it has seniority! A warm Mediterranean climate is ideal for growing ripe, bold, supple, and expressive wines from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah grapes. We pair our elegant, dark-fruited, spiced-up Zinfandel with the Margherita Pizza or Brick Chicken with Black Trumpet Mushrooms at the Glen Ellen Star. That is the ticket.
