2022 Rockpile Zinfandel
Tasting Notes:
Harvested from steep, rocky hillside slopes facing due east, the vines that grew the grapes that made their way into this bottle were low vigor and stress due to heat and lack of water. Aged with 20% new oak, this Zinfandel displays dark fruits, cassis, and hints of chocolate with dusty tannins.
Appellation Notes: Sonoma County
This small AVA is a valley bordered by the Mayacamas Mountains to the east and the Sonoma Mountains to the west. If you’re eating at the Glen Ellen Star in the town of Glen Ellen, you’re smack in the middle of the AVA. Established in 1981, Sonoma Valley was the first AVA recognized in Sonoma County, so it has seniority! A warm Mediterranean climate is ideal for growing ripe, bold, supple, and expressive wines from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah grapes. We pair our elegant, dark-fruited, spiced-up Zinfandel with the Margherita Pizza or Brick Chicken with Black Trumpet Mushrooms at the Glen Ellen Star. That is the ticket.
